Sheila Howe, Chairperson
Ms. Howe is the General Manager of Sycuan Casino. She introduced innovative technological improvements to the Casino, streamlined operations, and increased revenue. She is committed to improving community awareness and has been a driving force in the industry for ethics in business, customer service excellence, and celebrating diversity in the workplace. She has served on many task forces and cares greatly about the San Diego community.  She was on the Board of Mental Health America prior to her service on the Board of the San Diego Center for Children, which began in 2010.

Stan Pappelbaum, MD. MBA, Vice Chairperson
Dr. Pappelbaum is the managing partner of Pappelbaum, Turner & Associates, a national healthcare consultancy advising hospitals, medical groups, health insurers, and governmental healthcare clients throughout the United States. Previously, Dr. Pappelbaum held different positions at ScrippsHealth in San Diego, including as President and Chief Executive Officer, where he headed the five hospital not-for-profit system of 10,000 employees, including 2,500 affiliated physicians, with annual revenues of $1 billion. Prior to Scripps, Dr. Pappelbaum consulted on managing change for complex not-for-profit healthcare systems clients, and before that he taught and practiced pediatric cardiology at the University of California, San Diego and at San Diego Children’s Hospital where he was Chief of Pediatric Cardiology from 1972-1978. Dr. Pappelbaum currently holds teaching appointments as Clinical Professor of Pediatric Cardiology, University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and as Adjunct Faculty, Division of Health Services Administration, Graduate School of Public Health, San Diego State University. Dr. Pappelbaum is a past chair of the Medical Quality Subcommittee of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CALPERS). He is a past chair of both the National Committee on Child Health Financing and the National Council on Pediatric Practice of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was a consultant member of the non-partisan National Leadership Commission on Healthcare in the 1980’s based in Washington, D.C. chaired by then Former Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter.

Ray Gallagher, CPA, Treasurer
Mr. Gallagher is a partner in the accounting firm of Lavine, Lofgren, Morris and Engelberg, L.L.P.  He has been in San Diego since 1990 after relocating from Corpus Christi, TX.  Mr. Gallagher is a tax partner and most of his work revolves around closely held businesses and their owners in the tax planning and compliance area.  He has been active in various local non profits and most recently served on the board of San Diego Second Chance. Ray joined the San Diego Center for Children board in 2010.

Brian DeWitt, Secretary
Mr. DeWitt is Vice President and Division Counsel of Qualcomm’s Government Technologies Division.  Mr. DeWitt oversees all of the division’s legal affairs, including contracts, business processes, and technical publications, and is involved in the division’s strategic business planning.  Prior to Qualcomm, Mr. DeWitt was an attorney with Leap Wireless International, and before that he was with the law firm of Barnhorst, Schreiner & Goonan as a transactional lawyer, and at the beginning of his legal career he was an attorney with  Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye, then the largest law firm in San Diego.  He received his B.A. from the University of California, Riverside and his J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law where he was an editor of the Law Review.  Brian joined the San Diego Center for Children board in 2010.

Carol Clark
Mrs. Clark retired to San Diego from New York after a long career in business interiors. Prior to relocating to San Diego, Carol served on the Board of the Jack Clark Department of Pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Upon arriving in San Diego, she and her husband Jack, sharing a passion for helping children, became involved with the San Diego Center for Children and served on the board for five years. The result was the funding of the Jack & Carol Clark Adolescent Center and most recently the renovation of the Jack and Carol Clark Sports Court. Carol is passionate about healthcare and served on the board at the Scripps Center for Integrated Medicine and presently serves on the Scripps Clinic Cardiology board. She and her husband recently funded the Jack & Carol Clark Gymnasium in the New Life Enhancement Center at Scripps Center for Integrated Medicine. Mrs. Clark also takes pleasure in supporting the local arts, cooking and baking, and spending time with her husband Jack and their golden retriever, Sammi.

Jim Hancock
Mr. Hancock has held a variety of senior management, sales and investment banking positions in the 30 years since his graduation from law school. Mr. Hancock is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Global Payout, Inc. Mr. Hancock has a long history with the Center, having been a board member from 1979-1986 and then Chairman of the San Diego Center for Children Foundation from 1988 to 1990. He has seen successful progress and results of the Center's outreach in the community over the last thirty-one years and is committed to re-invest his time in bringing more community awareness to the Center's achievements.

Peter Kane
Mr. Kane’s experience includes work in health care, agriculture, aerospace manufacturing, biotechnology, and biomedical research. He has worked in both for-profit and non-profit sectors, as well as start-up and more mature organizations. He is an active member of the Society for Human Resources management, both national and local, and is the immediate past President of the Compensation and Benefits Association of San Diego, and a Founder and Board member of the Biotech Employee Development Coalition.

Dave McCaslin, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. McCaslin has over 30 years experience working at large- and medium-sized companies, and four years consulting to small companies. His experience at the Board level includes First Medical Inc., HTI Bio Services, HTI Bio Products, Sierra Biomedical, Concerro, and the San Diego Center for Children.

Morton Shaevitz, Ph.D., A.B.P.P.
Dr. Shaevitz is currently Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCSD School of Medicine, and Diplomate in Clinical Psychology, on the American Board of Professional Psychology. His work has been featured in many publications, and as the President of MHS Consulting, he has experience working with those who are dealing with a broad array of psychological/psychiatric issues. Dr. Shaevitz also serves on the San Diego Center for Children Clinical Affairs Committee.

Keith P. Wilson, Ph.D.
Dr. Wilson is President and Chief Scientific Officer of Takeda San Diego, Inc., a US-based IND engine for Takeda Pharmaceuticals of Japan. The San Diego site also supports Takeda's global structural biology needs, and is actively expanding Takeda's US science, business and intellectual property presence. From 2002-2007, Dr. Wilson was instrumental in reshaping the company from a platform to a drug discovery focused company, and in building its pipeline. Dr. Wilson received his formal education at the University of Oregon (Ph.D., physics, 1989) and Colby College (B.A., physics, 1984), where he graduated magna cum laude and was awarded the William A. Rogers prize in physics. Dr. Wilson is an author on over 30 peer-reviewed publications, and co-inventor of multiple compounds including telaprevir for the potential treatment of hepatitis C.
