Iris Auxiliary

Iris Auxiliary Logo

For over 30 years, the Iris Auxiliary has been right at the Center’s side, dedicating its efforts exclusively to the Center. They are truly a group for all seasons: carving pumpkins at Halloween, preparing gift bags and decorating trees at Christmas, and making up baskets of candy at Easter, just so the kids can enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures.

Funds raised by the Iris Auxiliary directly benefit the children and adolescents who have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse at some point in their life and who may be struggling with an emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenge. Thanks to the invaluable contributions and unwavering support of Iris, vital programs such as Art and Recreation Therapy have been supported, and Iris also sponsors special outings such as trips to local theme parks and museums.

A common question asked of Iris members is “What does Iris mean?” The following is an attempt to answer that question.

Iris doesn’t mean any one thing. It is instead, a symbol of a union of many things. The logo chosen for the Auxiliary contains an iris. This flower symbolizes a link between the old and the new, serving as a reminder of the very early years of the Center when Mrs. George Marston sponsored an annual flower show as a fundraiser. Iris also was a Greek Goddess and the Messenger of the Gods, just as the Iris Auxiliary strives to be messengers for the San Diego Center for Children.
