DISCOVERY HILLS DAY TREATMENT

DISCOVERY VALLEY DAY TREATMENT

Discovery Hills and Discovery Valley employs 20 to 25 staff members consisting of Child Development Counselors, Therapists, Program Managers and administrative support staff. Since the staff is fairly small they work closely together in a team environment and the atmosphere is casual and inviting. The purpose of the Discovery Hills and Valley Day Treatment Programs is to offer fully integrated mental health intensive day treatment services designed to meet the needs of emotionally disturbed students and to ultimately reintegrate each student into a more mainstream and less restrictive educational setting. The program is skilled in treating students with a variety of mental health diagnoses. The most common include disruptive behavior disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, impulse control disorders, and trauma. Discovery utilizes core therapeutic services including individual, family, group, and milieu therapy.  Clients also receive psychiatric services with our on-site psychiatrist. Discovery facilitates and maintains a productive collaborative working relationship with San Diego County Office of Education school personnel, the host school districts, the families, the clinicians, the psychiatrists, the case managers, and all other entities that may be involved in the treatment of the youth.

Discovery Hills Day Treatment program serves elementary and middle school students, with a maximum capacity of 20 students. DHDT is a mental health day treatment program which provides intensive day treatment, which includes individual, family and group therapy. These services are provided to students with mental impairments which prohibit them from participating in a mainstream school. The goal is to help aid students reintegrate into a mainstreamed school or less restrictive educational setting. DHDT staff includes licensed Therapists, registered Therapists, Child Development Counselors (CDC), contract Psychiatrist, Teachers and Teacher's Assistants.

Discovery Valley Day Treatment provides educational and mental health services for emotionally disturbed adolescents ranging in age from 12-22. DVDT has therapeutic classrooms with a fully integrated schedule and each classroom is its own self-contained team unit. Each team is made up of a Teacher, an Instructional Aide, a Child Development Counselor and a Therapist. The majority of the kids in each classroom are part of that therapists' team caseload.  The school schedule has been revised to incorporate pro-social skill development throughout the day and includes specialty therapy groups and recreational activities.  Mental health staff is an integral part of the classroom environment at all times and DVDT is proud of the uniquely supportive therapeutic culture that it maintains.

Discovery Hills and Discovery Valley are both located at 450 North Melrose Drive, Vista, CA 92083.
