EMERALD DAY TREATMENT PROGRAM

The Emerald Day Treatment Program is a collaboration between San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), the Cajon Valley Union School District, and San Diego Center for Children. The program started serving children between the ages of thirteen and fifteen in the fall of 2002. The dedicated team of eight consists of Child Development Counselors, Therapists and a Program Manager.  Since the staff is small they work closely together in a team environment and the atmosphere is casual and inviting.  

Emerald Day Treatment is a fully integrated mental health day treatment program providing intensive day treatment and case management services to students whose mental health issues interfere with their ability to benefit from special education.  Program services are designed to improve mental health functioning with the goal of re-integrating students into a less structured, less restrictive education setting in an appropriate school district classroom or non-public school. Approaches to treatment include cognitive and behavioral interventions, B.E.S.T. (Building Effective School Together), Peacebuilders, and ART (Aggression Replacement Training).  ART focuses on anger management, social skills, moral reasoning and self-esteem building.  

This program services middle school aged students (10-14 years of age), with a capacity of 12 students.  Emerald is located in El Cajon on the campus of Emerald Middle School.  Emerald Day Treatment offers students an array of activities to engage and motivate participation in their treatment.
