Takeda San Diego $250,000 Gift

Takeda San Diego Announces $250,000 Gift to Center to Help Fund a Behavioral Health Assessment

Mayor Jerry Sanders, Dr. Cheryl Rode, Takeda San Diego President Keith Wilson, and Center CEO Dave McCaslin at press conference for Takeda Gift.

On April 12th 2011, Takeda San Diego announced a major gift to the San Diego Center for Children, enabling a new behavioral health diagnostic program that will lead to more individualized diagnoses and treatments for Center residents and promote their faster return to healthy and full childhoods.

With the Takeda San Diego funding, the Center will develop a state-of-the-art behavioral health diagnostic program allowing every child entering the Center’s residential program to benefit from a more comprehensive assessment of their neurocognitive functioning, psychopathology, behavioral patterns, social history and individual strengths. The assessments will then fine tune each child’s treatment throughout their stay at the Center.

“Given the complexity of the children we help, we believe that more refined and individualized diagnosis and treatment plans are critical to help ensure each child’s success,” said Cheryl Rode, Ph.D., Director of Clinical Operations at the Center. “Until now, no funding has been available at the Center to complete as comprehensive a psychological diagnostic assessment as we believe is needed for treatment of children at this high level of care.” Dr. Rode added, “Psychological testing and academic testing are sometimes available through school referrals to the Center, but may not be complete or current to address the severity of concerns leading to residential placement.”

“We have had the privilege of working with the San Diego Center for Children since 2002, supporting frequent charity events and yearly holiday parties for the resident teens,” said Keith Wilson, Ph.D., Takeda San Diego President. “We are happy to support the Center with our contribution today. Children are the future and each child deserves the best chance for a joyful and successful life.”

Dr. Wilson added, “Helping communities is a core part of our philosophy. Takeda, our parent company in Japan, helps children there through their Well-Being Program as one of its many health-related corporate citizenship activities. It’s nice to bring that support to San Diego.”
