Anonymous Donor Makes 2014 Summer Jam Possible!

A friend of the Center recently asked, “What can I do for the kids this summer?  How can I give back to thank the staff doing such incredibly challenging work every day?”
The answer: 2014 Summer Jam!

Endless Summer meets Jazz Fest meets Carnival…this was the appreciation party for children and teens in our Residential program, as well as the amazing staff at the Center.  On Wednesday, August 6, the Center’s main Kearny Mesa campus welcomed Frida’s Cocina Taco Truck and Phil’s BBQ, live music by Kahlil Nash, outdoor games and inflatables, and a giant “water balloon finale!”  Staff and children all sported custom t-shirts created for the event with bright colors welcoming everyone to heart of summer.  Oversized sunglasses, boas, crazy hats and costumes added to the festivities, and there was always a line for a photo opp in the classic photo booth.

The event featured a local magician (willing to share a few tricks with the kids), face painting, a premier cupcake walk and much more… but the Wipeout Machine stole the show!  The humongous 8-player inflatable action game – with a giant rotating pole – challenged the balance of most everyone, but all in good humor.   And just as the fun action seemed to be winding down, nearly 1,000 water balloons were thrown during the ultimate “Staff vs. Kids Water Balloon Fun Finale!”

Kudos to all of the volunteers and Center staff who helped create the day, and a great big Thank You to the very special donor who helped this summer extravaganza come to life!
