Our Summer Chef Demo Series has been amazing as our teens are having fun and learning important life skills through culinary!
Thank you to Chef Mikel Anthony of Cast Iron Culinary, Chef Michelle Cuaresma of Good Eats and Sweet Treats, and Chef Donald Coffman of Culinary Concepts Catering for stopping by our Clark Kitchen to lead such wonderful demos.
Chef Mikel taught our teens how to break down and fabricate a whole chicken, learn the names of each part and how to cook each of the pieces. The group made a nutritious chicken stock with some of the chicken, and the rest of the chicken pieces were used to make a tasty Filipino Chicken Adobo with a ginger and garlic topping served with basmati rice. Chef Michelle shared important techniques and tips for our teens to create their own delicious mac and cheese dish from scratch. And, lastly, Chef Donald led a demo on making a summer salad with peaches, feta cheese and toasted walnuts, and shared about the importance of making simple dishes that are both healthy, delicious and easy to make.
We’re looking forward to more demos later this month! If you are a local chef and would like to participate in our year-round chef mentoring program, please contact Tina Reyes at treyes@centerforchildren.org.
