Maribeth began volunteering for the Center last year due to her stepson attending the Academy, our privately-operated nonpublic school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
“I saw the positive turnaround he made from going to the Academy, and I can’t speak enough of what the Center has done to help him. I’ve gotten to know people at the Center, which is why I also continue volunteering. I’m loyal to the Center,” says Maribeth.
Inspired by her stepson’s progress and also her career path of becoming a teacher, Maribeth dove into the Center’s event scene by volunteering with our 128th Anniversary Celebration, Wacky Wonky Walk & Kids Festival, and Holiday FUNDrive to now serving on the 129th Anniversary Celebration Event Planning Committee.
Maribeth is not only active in giving back to the Center and other numerous San Diego nonprofits, but also in serving as a role model to her children about the meaning of philanthropy. During last year’s Holiday FUNDrive, her children chose not to receive a few Christmas gifts in turn to have their gifts given to a child at the Center.
Maribeth shares, “I was really proud of them and their ability to understand that some children and families aren’t as fortunate. We adopted one of the Center’s students for Christmas as a family. That will always be memorable.”
We are honored for Maribeth and her family’s compassionate contributions. THANK YOU Maribeth for your gifts of time, talent, and treasure!
