Another video that was shown at our 131st Anniversary Celebration…enjoy Annie’s inspiring success story!
We had a wonderful turnout this past Saturday at our 131st Anniversary Celebration at Humphreys by the Bay!
Long-time supporters, new friends, and corporate and community partners all came out to help us raise important funds for families in need of our mental health services. Due to the generosity of many, we met our goal in raising $400,000 so we can help more children and families in our community RISE UP from their mental health struggles.
Our success would not have been possible without the generosity of our guests, event co-chairs and committee, corporate sponsors and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who attended, including the talented Andra Day who gave a stellar performance! We’re so fortunate for Andra’s support of our efforts, and for also inviting our youth choir to sing on-stage her hit song, “Rise Up.”

Many thanks again to our generous sponsors: San Diego Gas & Electric, BB&T – John Burnham Insurance, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, Southwest Airlines, Bank of America, Dowling & Yahnke, LLC, Vince Heald & Clinton Walters, James King Group Events, Umpqua Bank, Manpower San Diego and Moss Adams Careers.
Joyce Glazer, co-chair of our 131st Anniversary Celebration event tomorrow and longtime supporter, was featured today in Giving Back Magazine’s Feel Good Friday e-Newsletter. Joyce’s upbringing, which has fueled her passion to help others, and also her concern in creating mental health awareness is truly inspiring.
Many thanks to Joyce for her leadership, including her fellow co-chairs, Vince Heald and Clinton Walters, and the entire event committee. We’re fortunate for their many important contributions to our cause.
We have the great honor on a daily basis to witness the powerful impact we have on families. Here’s some recent feedback from parents…
“Your program was really made to fit my child’s needs.”
“I learned that I have to let my son know how I feel about his behavior. I need to spend time with him. I cannot help him if I do not take care of myself.”
“The people who work for your services are outstanding. Your team is A++++.”
Ring the victory bell because our Academy Panthers won the CAPSES Softball Championship Game today! Our talented student athletes have now made it to the championship game in 15 consecutive sports seasons over the last 5 years, and today, they won their 11th championship title.
Congrats to our students as well as our tough opponent, Sierra Academy of San Diego. Plus, kudos to our Academy coaches, Richard Torpey and Shawn Styer. Coach Shawn led our team to the championship game his first season as our new Athletic Director!
Last night was our Annual Clark Appreciation Night and our teens had such a blast! Team members of our Clark Adolescent Residential cottage host this formal event each year on our main campus as a way to show their appreciation to teens in our care and to let them know how important they are to us!
This special night is also a way to provide our teens with the experience of going to a prom as some of them might not have an opportunity to attend a school dance or function. The night included a catered dinner, a dance with song requests from our teens, a photo booth, and of course lots of more dancing!

Josh Dunn and his son, Jordan, were able to receive much needed mental health services because of the generosity of our supporters.
Join our efforts today and donate to support the necessary programs and services that every family deserves.
Takeda has been a long-standing partner of the Center, and we are very fortunate for the many ways they “give back” in support of our efforts.
Students from our Academy were treated to a day of science at Takeda California, and were even provided with cool lab coats and safety goggles! Scientists led demonstrations on automation and robotics, chemistry, and DNA purification by dissecting strawberries.
We thank the amazing team of scientists and staff at Takeda California for taking the time to plan such an amazing day of discovery and fun for our students! Science Rocks!
Yesterday, our Academy held their Second Annual Art Show to highlight the creative and talented work of our high school students!
Academy students have an opportunity to explore their creativity through two art classes, which results in unique and independent projects. Our Art History Class focuses on visual arts from cave paintings to modern art. Students learn the main characteristics of each art period, complete hands-on projects in the style of the period, and reflect upon what the art meant to both the artists as well as the viewers.
In Art Class, students experience art through a variety of mediums, including watercolors, acrylics, charcoal, pastels, pencils, and yarn. Students are introduced to different art styles and given projects to reflect the style at-hand.
We’re so proud of our students!
We’re fortunate and proud to have such expert team members!
Dr. Cindy Barreda Schurr, our Clinical & Assessment Manager, recently led a training for the County of San Diego Children’s System of Care Training Academy about the positive and negative implications of social media use on behavioral health symptoms, adolescent development and decision making.
Therapists, social workers, probation officers and direct service professionals were all in attendance and enjoyed her insightful training.
