Creative expression is an important therapeutic tool for the youth we serve, whether through fine arts, writing, photography, music, singing and more. A high school senior receiving our school-based therapeutic services at North County Academy (NCA) was inspired to write a poem about her experience of attending prom. Enjoy reading this student’s beautiful poem titled, “Moonlit Night.”
I never thought I’d see the day
When a magical door would open for me
“Starry Night” shines and lights the way
For my inner self has been set free
A life-changing experience I will never forget
Glittering stars to rainbow-lit ceilings
Finally time to let go, it suddenly hits
Of the pain in the past I have been feeling
From the lonely and sad outcasted girl
(Now that feels like decades before)
To boldest pink rockstar, shimmering pearls
Fluttery as an angel’s flight across the floor
Thank you, Thank you, staff of NCA
For a breathtaking, spectacular night
This wondrous event has taught me the way
To bravely open up my eyes to new sights
Nobody, not one, got left behind or caught up in strife
Those like me were able to come out of our shells
Without you, I never would have had the time of my life
For years to come, this will be the most exciting story to tell!
