Fostering Opportunity Scholarship Fund’s (FOSF) goal is to expand the educational opportunities for foster students by providing financial support for their higher education endeavors. We pair our scholarship recipients with mentors, who can lend supportive ear and offer advice, as each student transitions into their new environment and meets the challenges of higher education.

Not only do we provide food to thousands of San Diegans facing hunger, but by including case managers at distribution sites we open the door to the array of vital services offered at Jewish Family Service. The Hand Up Youth Food Pantry delivers food to several locations throughout San Diego County. Food is distributed once a week at St. Paul’s Cathedral downtown, once a month at Camp Pendleton and Murphy Canyon Military Housing, and as needed to our clients at Chabad Downtown, College Avenue Center, Foodmobile, JFS Turk Family Center, and JFS North County Coastal office.

The Golden Hill Farmers Market is mainly frequented by locals meaning you’ll get to beat most of the crowds and long lines that are characteristic of some of the other San Diego Farmers markets. The vendors provide basic offerings such as fresh organic and locally grown produce, tasty snacks and meal options such as hummus and pita chips, kombucha, crepes, tamales and grilled meats. Some popular vendors with the locals are those cooking up filipino and New Orleans inspired dishes. There is even a stand geared towards dogs where they sell a lot of treats, making this perfect for a Saturday morning stroll with your dog.
(Open Saturdays from 9:30am -1:30pm)
California Youth Connection was founded in 1988 by a group of foster youth and supportive adults to provide a vehicle for California foster youth to learn leadership and advocacy skills and to engage directly with policymakers to improve the foster care system. Founded on the model of youth empowerment, CYC maintains a dual focus on policy and youth development.
CYC is the only organization in California to engage foster youth in the policy making process. Our foster youth leaders have created a fundamental paradigm shift in child welfare policy in California, ensuring that foster youth are at the center of child welfare policymaking for the first time in history.
