Assistance Dog Special Allowance Program

Provides a $50 monthly payment to eligible persons who use a guide, signal, or service dog to help them with needs related to their physical disabilities.

Services:

The allowance is to help pay the costs of food, grooming, and health care for the dogs.

Eligibility:

Must live in California, be blind, deaf, hard of hearing, or disabled, use the services of a trained guide, signal, or service dog, and receive one or more of the following benefits: Supplemental Security Income (SSI), State Supplementary Payment (SSP), In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), or SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance). SSDI recipients must also meet federal poverty guidelines. Applications are available online.
