California College-National City Campus

California College San Diego is a private, independent educational institution dedicated to providing you with the knowledge and training you need for success in your chosen career. As an accredited school that focuses on student needs, you can be confident CCSD will provide you an education that allows you to capitalize on your full potential. You can earn a degree in a variety of specialized areas through the healthcare, graphic arts, business, and information technology programs at California College San Diego. Associate’s and bachelor’s degrees are offered, depending on the program you choose. And you can achieve an associate’s degree in 20 months or less, and a bachelor’s degree in 36 months or less, depending on your major.

California Conservation Corps.

The CCC is a state department that puts young people and the environment together for the benefit of both. Corpsmembers are young men and women between the ages of 18-25 (and veterans to age 29) who sign up for a challenging year of service to California, working to improve the state’s natural resources and communities. Young people join from counties statewide. As of 2015, the top five counties from which young people have joined:  Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego, Sacramento, & Fresno # of corpsmember positions in 2015- 16: 1587 serving more than 3,000 young people annually.

California State University, San Marcos

Founded in 1989, California State University, San Marcos is a new kind of university — the 20th campus to be established in the 23-campus CSU system. Today, more than 12,000 students attend our 304-acre, state-of-the-art main campus, which is nestled in the foothills of San Marcos, California (northern San Diego County). Catalyst (Full Service Partnership)

Catalyst is an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program. Catalyst provides full service partnership services to Transitional Age Youth (TAY) ages 16 to 25 with a serious mental illness, and who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in San Diego County. This recovery-focused program is also co-located with a consumer-run clubhouse offering a wide range of services designed to help each participant lead a meaning, self-sufficient life.

Chafee Grant

If you are or were in foster care and have financial need, you may qualify for up to $5,000 a year for career and technical training or college. You don’t have to pay this money back. You may also be able to use your grant to help pay for child care, transportation and rent while you’re in school. You can use your Chafee Grant at any eligible California college or university or career or technical school, as well as schools in other states. The application is available on the website listed.

Chelsea’s Light Foundation: Sunflower Scholarship Fund

The Sunflower Scholarship Fund’s purpose is simple: to find resilient and bright students who tower over others in uniqueness and splendor, who stand out from a crowd, just as a sunflower does. The Fund helps support students in two ways: Academic and “Joie de Vivre” extracurricular scholarships. The Academic scholarships will provide financial support for college enrollment, and the Joie de Vivre or “joy of life” scholarships are designed to enable children with financial need to experience the joy of extracurricular activities that they otherwise couldn’t afford.

Child Welfare Services: Extended Foster Care

Extended Foster Care (EFC) provides support to foster care youth up to their 21st birthday. This provides foster youth with an opportunity to have increased responsibilities and independence, which will help prepare them for self sufficiency.
